The Artisans Dao Xuan Hung

Dao Xuan Hung was born in 1938 into a family of traditional rattan and bamboo handicraft in Thuong Hien Commune, Kien Xuong District, Thai Binh Province. He lives at No.45, Quan Nai Village, Du Hang Kenh Ward, Le Chan District, Hai Phong City. Since 1955 together with his family he restored the traditional rattan and bamboo village at Thuong Hien Ward, Kien Xuong District, Thai Binh Province. In 1962, he moved to Bac Can province to help the development of economy and culture there, founded the cooperative of export rattan and bamboo in role of a chairman and a teacher to teach the craft for residents in the 100 communes of ethnic minorities. In 1975, he once again moved to the central Hai Phong and founded the cooperative of export rattan and bamboo named Hang Kenh, training for 300 members of some communes and craft villages on the outskirts of An Hai District, Tien Lang District and Thuy Nguyen District. From 1983 to 1984, he was the chief of expert corps in charge of training the craft for foreign economic experts coming from Cuba, Laos, Mongolia, Cambodia in Hanoi. At present, he is teaching the craft for the ethnic people in Bac Kan province, Hai Phong city and handing the craft down to 30 blind, deaf and dumb people.
